Understanding Fire Classes: A, B, C, D, K Explained
Not all fires are the same. Fires are classified based on the type of fuel that is burning. Each class of fire requires a specific extinguishing agent for safe and effective suppression. Class A Fires: Ordinary Combustibles

Extinguishing Methods: Never use water or foam on a Class C fire as these conduct electricity and can cause electrocution. Use CO2 or dry chemical powder extinguishers that are non-conductive. CO2 is preferred for electrical fires involving sensitive equipment because it leaves no residue. If possible, de-energize the electrical equipment by unplugging it or turning off the main power supply before attempting to extinguish the fire. Combustible metal fires burn at extremely high temperatures and can react violently with water and other common extinguishing agents.
